Meet the Instructors of Inspire Yoga Grapevine vol.2

posted by April Borge

The Inspire Yoga Grapevine Team has been assembled and we can’t wait for you to meet them!  In this weekly blog series, you’ll meet the instructors who will be Inspire-ing Grapevine to get on their mats.  Our next instructors are Grapevine locals and are looking forward to teaching at a studio in their “backyard!”  Meet Tara Munro and Lisa Grimes!

Tara Munro

Tara has been a fixture at Inspire Yoga’s flagship location since 2011 where you can find her leading yoga with mind-blowing playlists on Sunday mornings, as well as, being an integral part of Inspire Yoga School’s 300 Hour Trainings. But it all began in 2000, when she ventured into her first yoga class, and it became clear how vastly rich the practice of yoga is in its ability to integrate the body, mind, and spirit.

In January, 2006, she completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification and in January 2008, after completing over 1000 teaching hours, Tara received the distinguished E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) credential. Tara is certified to teach Adaptive Yoga to students with MS and in 2008 received her 500 hr RYT in Yoga Therapy.

As an avid student of yoga, Tara has developed an eclectic mix of yoga methods from numerous teachers including Rod Stryker, Beryl Bender Birch, Dharma Mittra, Shiva Rea, and many more. Her compassionate, yet disciplined, teaching style is therapeutic and challenging as she emphasizes a cultivation of awareness within each pose she instructs. You’ll find her inspiring with her playful spirit and wacky sense of humor, yet patient as she takes time out to personally guide you on your yoga journey.

Recently, I got to grab a beer with Tara at Grapevine Craft Brewery and here is what we talked about:

As a Texas native and resident of Grapevine since 2008, this makes you our Grapevine expert.  So what is your favorite Grapevine hangout? “My house (insert infectious laugh!) but other than that I like Chez Fabian, Chill and Grapevine Craft Brewery.”

And what does your personal yoga practice mean to you? “It means my own escape to turn off all of the outside and turn inward to tap into my authentic self.”

Your diverse taste in music comes through in your yoga classes. But who is your go-to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to? “Led Zeppelin or anything Motown.”

You’ll find Tara teaching at Grapevine on Thursday evenings (Inspire and Slow Flow) and bringing the heat on Saturdays at 9:30am for another Inspire class.

Lisa Grimes

Lisa Grimes is over the moon excited to be joining Inspire Yoga Grapevine! She has been in the fitness world for 37 years! She began teaching old-school,  jumping jack, leg warmer, thong-on-the-outside aerobics as a part-time career in college at Texas Tech at age 18. But more recently, she serves communities in Lubbock, Fort Worth, Colleyville, Southlake, and GRAPEVINE, in many capacities of fitness, to include indoor cycle, strength classes and, of course, yoga.

“Yoga brings a track of clarity and calm to my world. When I learned the power of the breath, I was astonished at how my outlook and feelings about me, others and my world changed. My personal mission is to always strive to edit my life to be in harmony with myself, others and the universe. Yoga is the energy for my life’s mission.”
As a classroom teacher and learning liaison, Lisa brings differentiation to her yoga approach; that yoga is for everyone. For Lisa, it is never about working towards success in a handstand or a posture. It is about how being in a posture and breathing fully gives a new perspective on life. Sometimes it is a simple as helping the class not take it all so seriously.
Here’s what Lisa shared with me during our sit down together:
What are you most looking forward to at  Inspire Yoga Grapevine?
One of the things I am most looking forward to, is the opportunity to be deeply connected to my Grapevine community through yoga. I have been in the Grapevine community for years. My 3 children started elementary school at Cannon – my kids had the Mayor’s wife as their teacher and my youngest had the Mayor’s daughter’s as his first grade teachers. Because I have been in this area and know so many people in the community, I am excited to be in a downtown setting where I know I am going to see all the people who have been intertwined in my life as a mom, active PTA parent, school teacher and community member. I am on fire ready for this journey to begin!
I LOVE your enthusiasm! So what is your ideal way to spend a weekend?
Anything outdoors! I’m an outdoor cyclist, runner, occasional mini triathlete, nutrition enthusiast, and novice hiker and camper; my new jam!
If you weren’t in the fitness industry, what other profession would you love to pursue?
If I didn’t teach yoga, I would still be a teacher. It is my life’s calling. It is my passion. I  might volunteer to teach people how to read or use  my nutrition coaching or life coaching certifications to help others eat and live more healthfully.
Catch some of Lisa’s energy at her 5:30am class on Mondays and her Non-heated Slow Flow class and Inspire class on Thursdays.  But don’t wait until we open!  You can take her free class on July 28th at Grapevine Craft Brewery!

My name is April Borge. I'm a wife, mother, yogi, and lover of wine, books, movies, and all things comfortable. For me, yoga has evolved from a form of exercise to a way of life. I love introducing new people to the practice and helping them find the same sense of peace that I find on the mat.
