Inspiring Yogi | Heather Smith

Happy February, yogis! One month has already come and gone in 2018. Can you believe it? Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses this month (maybe literally on the 14th!) – and just be present in the beauty of your every day life. We are excited to share another very inspiring yogi’s story today. This is Heather! Heather is a yogi at the Highland Village location and you can find her on her mat nearly every day. She loves the Inspire Yoga community and even makes a trek from Trophy Club to get to the warm studio because it’s such a special place for her to move and breathe. Read her story and leave her some love in the comments!

My name is Heather Smith and I have been practicing Yoga for a little over eight years. I first stepped on my mat in Albuquerque, New Mexico to bring some balance to my running. I was invited by a friend and the first few classes were tough, but as I continued to show up on my mat, my body and mind started to settle. In 2010, I moved to Atlanta where again I found a community to practice yoga and I completed a 200 hour teacher training with Yogaworks. My practice has taught me to enjoy the journey of effort and ease. In each pose is an opportunity to learn something new about myself. I take the lessons on the mat and bring them into my everyday life. For instance… to try new things that may scare me, realizing I may be stronger than I thank and sometimes just need to slow down and breathe. My yoga practice and my faith in God continue to show me all the possibilities God has for me.

My favorite pose right now is Warrior 2 because in this pose I feel empowered and strong. Warrior 2 reminds me to stand firm in who I am and to be confident in who God created me to be.

I moved to Trophy Club about two years ago where for the first year I searched for a yoga community to make my home. During the search I had the opportunity to attend level1 Baptiste training, which stretched me more and helped me to realize how important finding a yoga family would be for me. Last fall I came to Inspire Yoga and fell in love with the teachers, community and the flow of classes. The Inspire Yoga community has been an encouragement and reminds me that we are better together as we inspire one another to be the best version of ourselves.

I am grateful for Inspire.
