Yes, yes – we know….Chair Pose is everybody’s favorite pose (ha!). Okay, we get it – this pose is tough. But, hey, utkatasana is a part of the practice for a reason. This pose immediately challenges the practitioner physically and mentally. When we persevere and breathe deeply in this pose, we build our endurance, enhance our awareness and establish a firm foundation. This week, take some time to shake a little in this pose, try a new variation or go further than you think you can. Breathe your way through it and watch yourself grow in strength and confidence!

“An instructor serves up chair pose, and it’s never on my personal menu because it’s the pose that best represents adversity — I feel stuck, I count breaths, I try not to curse. Eventually, I land in the “fierce” pose. It’s actually the same pose — teachers use “chair” and “fierce” interchangebly – but to me, the shift is mental — start in chair, settle into fierce, where I embrace strength, dial up my breath and gut out this pose, knowing my practice allows me to better handle what I don’t order up on life both on and off the mat.”
