Shoulder Release Pose

We are excited to announce February’s #IYPOM (Inspire Yoga Pose of the Month) – Shoulder Release pose. This pose is mere magic for releasing tension in the shoulder and neck. It’s wonderful after a long day at the office or to incorporate into your morning routine after a rough night’s sleep.

Here’s what recent Inspire Yoga 200HR Graduate Karen (pictured) had to say about the pose:

“Shoulder release pose is one of my favourite poses. I love it so much that I make time for it on a nightly basis. Usually tension builds up from a full day of slouching, making it nearly impossible for me to sleep. This pose serves as a great counter pose for shoulder slumping, and it also increases shoulder mobility. My nights are more restful and my body is happier all thanks to this pose.”

Directions:

Option A at the wall…

Facing the wall, extend the right arm to the right about 90 degrees from the body. Place the left hand under the left shoulder for support.
Begin to gently press into the left hand to rotate the body and roll the right side body on the wall. Keep the hand there for support or you can relax it at your side.

If you don't need the left hand for support, you can place it behind your back for extra release.

If you want a deeper stretch in the shoulders, you can try to interlace the two hands together (keeping them 90 degrees from the body). You can use a strap for this bind.
